About Hartsfield Manor

Nestled in the scenic Surrey countryside between the market towns of Reigate and Dorking sits Hartsfield Manor, a 19th-century Victorian manor house situated on 16 acres of landscaped gardens. Hartsfield Manor’s setting is breathtakingly beautiful, with views reaching far across the rolling Surrey Hills. While the former manor home retains its Victorian grandeur, it has been updated with modern amenities and comforts. The hotel boasts 50 luxurious bedrooms, an elegant lounge full of period features including high ceilings and ornate cornicing, and an upscale restaurant and bar serving a variety of drinks from the Pilgrim Brewery based in Reigate and wines from the local world-famous Denbies Wine Estate.

Our history

WWII Canadian Army Hospital

Hartsfield Manor is an early Victorian house of historical significance located in Betchworth, Surrey, England. It was built in the 1860s as a private residence and was occupied by several notable individuals until World War II. Hartsfield Manor was built in the 1860s by Arthur Woodriff Jaffray, son of a successful export merchant, as a family home. Sadly, Arthur died in a shooting accident in 1864 before the house was completed. In 1871 Jaffray’s widow, Mary Moir, remarried Captain James Moir and they completed the house in 1869. After their passing, a string of noteworthy residents lived in the house until the second world war, when the house was taken over by the Canadian Army to be used as a hospital.
