Thirty Two Generations
The Tempest family are believed to have come to England from Normandy during William the Conqueror’s 1066 invasion of England and were given land in the aftermath of the invasion. The Tempests are one of England’s oldest Catholic landed gentry families. Roger Tempest, the current custodian of Broughton Sanctuary is the 32nd Tempest in a recorded line dating from the 11th century.
