Billesley Manor is a 16th-century Elizabethan manor house set on 11 acres of spectacular grounds, just outside Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare’s iconic birthplace. It is surrounded by a magnificent 11th-century church and an elegant Victorian-era topiary garden, which was planted 120 years ago to resemble a chess board. It was at Billesley Manor that Shakespeare wrote his 20th play, ‘As You Like It’, where the iconic line “All the world’s a stage” originated from. The Manor’s grounds are home to the All Saints Church where Shakespeare is believed to have married Anne Hathaway. Billesley Manor has a long, rich history and is first referenced in England’s most famous and earliest public record, the 1085 Domesday book. Billesley Manor was also home to one of England’s most respected ancient family names, the Trussell’s, who occupied the Manor over many generations.
