Storrs Hall is an 18th-century Grade II* listed Georgian Mansion, situated on the shores of Lake Windermere, and surrounded by 17 acres of tranquil gardens. Sir John Legard, a Yorkshire landowner, constructed Storrs Hall in the 1790s as a permanent substitute for his holiday home on the Swiss lakes. He decided to build a residence on the shore of Lake Windermere due to its beauty, and chose what he believed was the most convenient and harmonious location on the lake. Over the years, many notable guests attended Regattas and events held at the residence, including famous poets William Wordsworth and Robert Southey.
Storrs is a dreamily beautiful location for your wedding ceremony and celebrations. The timeless landscape it looks out over ensures peace and privacy, enhancing the elegant spaciousness of the hall itself. Three spacious rooms in the main house are licensed for your exchange of vows, all with that big lake view as a backdrop; as well as the Victorian Garden Pavilion that faces west from the lawns overlooking lake Windermere.
The Lake District is described as the ‘UK’s Adventure Capital’ for good reason. Maximise the advantage of the hotel's private lakeshore access to try wild swimming, paddle-boarding, kayaking, and sailing. Or let someone else do all the work and relax enjoying the scenery as a passenger on anything from a rib-ride, an elegant sailing yacht, to a sporty motorboat.
Storrs Hall is one glorious box of chocolates to dip into when it comes to choice of walking. The walks start from the hotel's front door, and then move further afield – Storrs Hall has specialised in the Southern hills on purpose, to avoid traffic queues and because they are something different to the norm. They've all got spectacular views, often for hundreds of miles, being coastal brings something different, and being limestone the wildlife on them is extra diverse.
Storrs Hall has 2 dining options, the restaurant facing south over the lake, is where they serve breakfast and dinner. Head Chef Andy concentrates on cooking great, local and sustainably produced food. The Tower Bar is a cosy Public Bar, with a menu of classic pub food favourites, all cooked fresh in house and available from lunchtime. The bar menu and Afternoon Tea are also served on a beautiful lake view terrace on the south lawns, weather permitting. Afternoon tea is served in the restaurant, drawing room or study, all of which make the most of the enviable views.
