Milestone Hotel is a five-star, Grade-II listed Victorian building, located in Kensington, Central London. Located adjacent to the Royal Kensington Palace with exceptional views of Kensington Gardens, the iconic London hotel sits as an honoured neighbour of the Royal Palace.
As evidence of the rich royal history that preceded the hotels construction, the home originally built on the site was Kensington House, a historic 4-storey residence built between 1688 and 1692. The house was first occupied by Foot Onslow, a British Army officer and politician, and commissioner under king William III. His son, Arthur Onslow, served in the House of Commons for over 3 decades. During this time, he rented the property to George Davenport, who was a Royal Bodyguard officer and the man who famously claimed to be William Shakespeare’s grandson. The estate then came into the ownership of the godmother of Davenant’s son, Lady Susan Belasyse, Baroness Belasyse of Osgodby, who was having an affair with King James II. The property changed hands a number of times again between distinguished owners and society figures, including author and diplomat, John Freeman-Mitford, the 1st Baron Redesdale, who was the last residential owner of the house Before the property was transformed into a hotel during the 1920s.
